U14 (Schoolboy) Ohio Freestyle/Greco Roman
Congratulations on your placement at the OAC State Tournament!!
As a state place winner, you are invited to participate in the U14 (Schoolboy) National Team Trials for
Ohio with an opportunity to represent Ohio in the U14 National Duals in Indianapolis in June. Your
placement at the OAC State Tournament is a great accomplishment and a proven method to continue to
improve your wrestling in the off-season is to wrestle freestyle and Greco Roman.
The premier U14 freestyle and Greco Roman event is the U14 National Duals in Indianapolis in June. In
order to qualify for the Team Ohio National team, you need to participate in the U14 Ohio National
Team Trials in May. The U14 state champion at the Ohio National Team Trials in each style will
represent Team Ohio on the National Duals Team. There are no qualifiers necessary for participation in
the Team Ohio National Team Trials; just show up and wrestle!
There are many clubs around the state that promote both freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling and all
middle school aged (U14) kids are welcome in those clubs. We encourage you to go join a local club, go
learn, and go compete! If you have not wrestled freestyle or Greco Roman previously, USA Wrestling –
Ohio’s webpage at www.usawrestling-ohio.org provides a list of tournaments available in April that can
be used to prepare for the National Team Trials.
Ohio has a rich wrestling history and success. A lot of big names have been on this Schoolboy team and
have gone on to achieve great success at the high school level. In 2019, both the Ohio Greco Roman and
Freestyle teams placed in the top 8 and were All-Americans. In 2021, the Freestyle Team finished 5th in
the country! These are great results, but one we hope to improve on as a state. Part of that is making
sure the state’s best kids participate in both Freestyle and Greco Roman and come to the team trials on
May 07!!!
The best part about the U14 Team is that it is not handpicked; you must show up and win your weight
class to earn the spot on the team. However, we need the best kids in Ohio who are of age, to show up
and want to represent their state to try to win a national title in Indianapolis in June.
We look forward to seeing everyone throughout the freestyle season, and good luck!
