OAC and Novice State to partner at Glass City Center to Highlight
 Novice and Divisional State Tournament

A partnership between the Ohio Athletic Committee and Ohio Grapplers (Ohio Novice State)  will bring the Ohio Novice State Tournament and the OAC Divisional State Tournament to the Glass City Center in Toledo, Ohio on February 11th and February 12th, 2023.
 
Bringing these two events together on consecutive days will allow for youth wrestling clubs, coaches, and families to experience premier wrestling events all in the same location. This combined weekend will showcase Ohio’s best beginner, intermediate, and experienced youth wrestlers at a common arena, for back-to-back days.
 
Ohio Grappler Founder Mike Mattin said “Wrestling in Ohio has a rich tradition and history. It is our goal that in hosting the Novice State wrestling tournament we may be able to encourage more wrestlers to be excited and involved in our sport. By bringing the events together it provides one weekend for Ohio Youth Wrestling Clubs”
 
The 11th Annual Ohio Novice State tournament, run through the Ohio Grapplers, will take place on Saturday, February 11th. Novice classification is designated for newer, less experienced wrestlers.  In order to qualify for the Novice status, wrestlers must fit the following criteria; wrestler must be an Ohio resident, 3 years of experience or less, (2 or more competitions during a year qualifies as a season), must not have qualified for OAC State prior to this season, no returning 2022 Novice State Finalists.
 
Following the Novice State Tournament on February 12th the Ohio Athletic Committee will host the 6th annual Divisional State Tournament. The Divisional State Tournament is for youth and middle school wrestlers. In addition to being separated by age group, the brackets are also separated by feeder school size. Wrestlers who are affiliated with large schools and small schools are split into separate brackets.
 
OAC Director Jared Opfer said “We expect with Divisional and Novice events combining on one weekend,  wrestling clubs, families, and coaches will be able to bring their entire team for a weekend for all levels.”
