1999 Ohio Junior High Wrestling State Championships

On March 20th, 1999 the Inaugural Ohio Junior High State Championships did not disappoint. In its first year the talent level was beyond deep. Wrestlers earned qualifying spots at Medina (NE), Findlay (NW), Thomas Worthington (C), Wayne (SW), and East Liverpool (SE). Each district qualified the top 3 wrestlers in each weight class, while the district with most wrestlers qualified the top 4 at each weight.
The 1st weight class contested in Ohio Junior High State History did not disappoint. Ryan Smith, of Olmsted Falls, finished as the 1st OAC State Champion and would eventually be a 2x OAC State Champ & 2x OHSAA High School State Champion. Runner up Mike Compton (Willard) finished as a 2x OHSAA State Champion Ricky Deubel (Kenston) finished 3rd in the weight class and went on to become an OHSAA Finalist 3 times while capturing 2 titles. He also qualified for the NCAA Div. I Tournament three times while at Edinboro. Tanner Shearer finished 4th in this stacked weight. Shearer went on to capture 3 State Titles and 3 Team State Titles with Sandusky St. Marys. Perez finished as a 2x OHSAA Finalist while at Vermilion & Elyria.
J Jaggers Picks up OAC State Title.
J Jaggers earned the initial 108lb OAC Junior High State Title. The 108lb class has been synonymous with success. Thes wrestlers earned success at all levels. Also picking up titles at 108lbs were Steve Luke, Dustin Schlatter, Ben Jordan, Felipe Martinez, Ian Miller, Dean Heil, Jacob Danishek , Alex Mackall, Mitch Moore & Jordan Decatur.
