What Ohio's coaching greats are saying about the OAC State Tournament Series

New weight class for Jr. High State:

The Jr. High District and State will have an addition to the weight classes for the 2008 season. This year we will have a 74 lb weight class. Our data has determined the 78 lb weight class to be one of the most populated weights over the past 5 years. The actual weight data collected from the state tournament during this period shows that many of these wrestlers are 75 lbs or less. The addition of this weight class will help these wrestlers to be more competitive and put the 78 lb weight class closer to the other weight classes population.

Seeding Tournaments Information and Entry Forms

If your group would like to host an OAC Seeding Tournament to raise funds for your program please contact the OAC Operations Manager at juderoth@ohioathletics.com

New (starting in February 2009)

All February Seeding Tournaments will receive double seed points. They will receive one set of points for this years remaining Districts seeding and one set for the 2010 District seeding.

All wrestlers that enter online will receive 2 bonus points added to their point total for that tournament. (This will be for ALL 2009 - 2010 Seeding Tournaments starting in February 2009)

2009 - 2010 Seeding and State Ranking System

A wrestler's win loss record from for the seeding tournament that he/she competes is recorded. The winning percentage will be calculated. The total seed points will multiplied by the winning percentage to determine the wrestler's Seed/Ranking. We will use this calculation because a wrestler that would earn 2nd place in a tournament and went 4-1 (.80 winning percentage x 10 seed points for 2nd place = seed/ranking of 8) should be given a higher ranking than a wrestler that earns 2nd place and went 1-1 (.500 winning percentage x 10 seed points for 2nd place = seed/ranking of 5)

Seeding Criteria for 2010

1st place = 14 point
2nd place = 10 points
3rd place = 7 points
4th place = 4 points

Seed Ranking is calculated by multiplying the seed points earned by the winning percentage in tournament. An additional 2 points is added if the entry had been an online entry.

The points are accumulated throughout the year.

Grade School District Seed Criteria

  1. Highest Returning Placer/Highest Ranking (if two 2nd place wrestlers are returning/one with the higher ranking would get the seed)
  2. Returning State Qualifier Same Division/Highest Ranking
  3. Highest Ranking
  4. Returning State Qualifier Different Division/Highest Ranking
  5. Highest Ranking

Jr. High District Seed Criteria

  1. Highest Returning Placer/Highest Ranking (if two 2nd place wrestlers are returning/one with the higher ranking would get the seed)
  2. Returning State Qualifier/Highest Ranking
  3. Highest Ranking

A wrestler can compete in as many of these tournaments as they wish. They could compete at any weight with their seed points accumulated. Their seed points would follow them to whatever weight class they enter for the District tournament. We are paying close attention to the league schedules around the state and will not host a seeding event on the same date as a league commitment in a particular area. There would be no more than 5 tournaments in each district area and the tournaments could take place from April - January, which will spread out the events over the entire year. A wrestler could participate in any of these seed tournaments not just those designated to their district. The OAC web page will track, post and update after each tournament the wrestler's name, record and seed/ranking for anyone to view.
